South Africa's Chenél No.1 and I met on Twitter about a year ago, right around when covid started, and became fast friends. A few months in, I was working on a fun little ditty, a lovely chorus for a song but I couldn't come up with a verse. I mentioned it to her and she was shocked and responded, "I have been working with a lovely verse but have no chorus!" We swapped what we had and the pieces literally fit together perfectly- they were even in the same key! Right then, we decided to do an EP together.
This song, "Dying to Meet You," is the result of those shared choruses and verses. It's about our friendship, our hopes to someday meet each other in person, and our dreams about our music careers taking off. It was a perfect project- I wrote the music for the choruses, she wrote the verses. We both wrote our own lyrics. I played bass and mandolin, she covered guitar. After her producer, Johann, wrapped it up and I heard it for the first time, I actually CRIED. Love is a powerful thing, guys. Right now, it's just so important to have hope in the future and to know that there are wonderful people out there who care about you and with whom you can do beautiful things, even if they are literally half a world away. :)
lyrics
She calls me for advice, I say "Bloom where you're planted,
If you do that, you'll be alright."
I've grown so confused here, I'm gonna try to fly but if I fall,
You'll catch me, right?
She's awake when it's not light
Sending mail all through the night
I'm in her prayers, so it's alright
Dying to meet you
Make do with what you've got and know that you are loved
And don't let the world drag you down
I feel you in your song, yeah- we can both jump together
Let's go rock this world to the ground
Friends- someone to talk to
Friends look out for each other
Friends laugh together
Friends make memories
Friends just do it better
Friends flock together
