The night before the heavily charged 2021 US election results were finally called, I had a dream in which I heard this whole song. I woke up and wrote the music but couldn't come up with any words. When they finally finalized the results I saw footage of people celebrating by dancing in the streets of Philadelphia and the lyrics all came to me at once. Election song is simply about trying to remember to listen to both sides, even when it is impossibly hard, and trying to remember to love the people you love even though you may disagree.
